DARFUR TOO DARK TOO FAR examines the root causes of genocide...Slavery, Racism & Oppression in the Name of Religion. Although the inhumane circumstances of Darfur are addressed, we also journey throughout history touching upon the all too many genocides, African Transatlantic Slave Trade, Armenian, German Holocaust, Cambodian, Bosnian, Rwandan and other. The process allows us to connect the dots leading to the root causes of genocide. Simply stated...Undo Slavery, Racism, Oppression in the Name of Religion & STOP Genocide.
DARFUR TOO DARK TOO FAR was recently awarded Best Social Documentary in the NY International Independent Film Festival, Best of Best in Martha's Vineyard African-American Film Festival and Excellence in Cinema for a Documentary Film in the LA International Film Festival.
This documentary film includes powerful and important scholars, historians, leaders and unique individuals such as Mr. Simon Deng, respected Sudanese Human Rights Activist, Darfurian Activist, Daoud Hari (NY Times had an article on him by Nick Kristof in op-ed section, Monday 5.14, "Witness Next Door"), well respected and loved pediatrician with Doctors Without Borders, Dr. Jerry Ehrlich, Governor Jon Corzine, Senator Robert Menendez, Artist/Activist Mtume, Joshua Nelson, African American Jewish gospel singer (sings through the Holocaust segment) and other outstanding individuals. The musical score is moving and greatly enhances the impact of the
film.
The 60 minutes documentary film alone is an incredible awakening. In addition to the screening, a Q&A follows with the mesmerizing award winning director, Hafiz Farid. The questions and responses guide the Q&A towards a variety of stunning directions, which include the connecting of the global situations with that of domestic ones. It is impossible to avoid delving into gang violence to hate crimes and racism, which are clearly existing right here in our backyards.
This documentary film, which has screened on educational campuses, in religious and spiritual centers, for organizations and corporations and other, allows for the understanding of historical facts in a way that our minds are stimulated and our hearts deeply touched. We are left searching within ourselves asking, "What can I truly do to make a difference?" This becomes each one's individual journey. |
